Finding a therapist

Instead of speaking for them, each therapist has written a little bit about themselves as a way of saying hello to you, the reader! You'll get a sense of what they're like while also learning about their approach. All of these therapists are open for business and would love to hear from you - you can reach them through their respective websites!

Kristina Pearson, Registered Psychotherapist

Hi! I'm Kristina Pearson, a registered psychotherapist working in private practice in Findlay Creek, Ottawa. At Pearson Psychotherapy Clinic, I'm committed to helping you improve your mental health by providing you with greater understanding of your experiences through an objective and nonjudgmental lens. I value teaching you how to better recognize your challenges by enhancing your mind-body connection and educating you on how to exercise your personal agency. Going through mental health lows can be overwhelming, but with psychotherapy you can learn how to approach life's challenges more mindfully and take actions that align with what's most important to you.

My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, self-esteem issues, anger management, trauma, and more. I bring a calm presence to sessions with a passion for empowering others to take charge of their mental health. I offer in-person and virtual sessions between Monday and Friday, and I offer free 15 minute consultation calls to help us get started. I look forward to connecting with you!

Catherine Burnet
Catherine Burnet, Registered Psychotherapist

My name is Catherine Brunet, and I have been a registered psychotherapist for 5 years. I originally started working with youth who struggled with substance use disorder and it allowed me to dive into the world of trauma and complex PTSD. Since then, I have developed a strong desire to help adults who struggle with interpersonal relationships, grief, addiction, life transitions, anxiety, and depression.

My approach starts by fostering a strong therapeutic relationship with my client for them to feel safe and cared for when they are in a vulnerable state. If they feel that they can be their most authentic self, they can allow themselves to become resilient and grow more self-sufficient. My goal is to work with my client toward independence such that they no longer require services. I believe that when a client develops the fortitude to know that they can rely on themselves and trust others in the process, they have the tools needed to face life on their own.

Kira Lynn Laurin, Registered Psychotherapist

Hello! My name is Kira Lynn (they/she). I am a Registered Psychotherapist offering service to folks in Ontario, both in-person and virtual, with an office in Hawkesbury. I am an ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) enjoyer but do practice through a somatic- informed lens. I love the term acceptance as an action-driven verb and have been practicing Mindfulness since 2011. I love to share my passion for writing and do offer writing therapy.

My passions include all things geeky: fanfiction and fiction writing, video games, comics, movies… And hanging out with friends/family.

My practice is currently open to all those who experience trauma and who are

experiencing depression or anxiety symptoms as a result of their trauma responses. I have lived experience and am also open to mad, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA2S+ folks.

Sofie Charron, Registered Psychotherapist

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist with over 10 years of practice post-graduation. That said, I’m still as passionate about the work (if not, more!) than I was when I first entered the Counselling Master’s Program at Saint Paul University in 2012.

I got into this field out of personal interest. I’ve always been fascinated by human behaviour and resilience. I’ve always been curious about what helps a person get through difficult situations and what makes it more difficult to do so for others. I particularly enjoy the process of empowering people to discover their own strengths, abilities and choices.

I’ve spent the last few years of my career extensively training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). For those who aren’t familiar with the approach, it’s a combination of cognitive-behavioural therapy and mindfulness. I find it relatable, easy to apply in daily life and rich in skills that are transferable from one life issue to the next.

I’ve also recently expanded my practice into a group practice. I provide clinical supervision to the associates on the team, and so we all share a similar approach to therapy. Anyone looking to work with me but who can’t due to scheduling conflicts or the like could consider working with someone on the team.

I feel quite blessed to do this work with so many incredible people. I’m grateful for my clients trust and it’s a privilege to accompany them. If anyone out there is considering therapy but is worried about taking that first leap, let me tell you: We’re human too and we’re here to help!

Given this is the first-ever featuring/round-table post on this website. Let me introduce myself as well:

Hey! I'm Gwen Preston and a registered psychotherapist (qualifying). I graduated from Yorkville University with a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology with Distinction and have other professional experience working with adults with disabilities and elderly adults with age-related issues. In all cases, developing relationships with people has been nothing shy of a privilege, even when challenges presented themselves. This is true for my psychotherapy clients as well! Getting to know someone in a therapeutic space is unique, for both therapist and client alike.

In session, I practice with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - which means that we discuss emotional regulation and what your values are, and how we can work together to close the gap between where you are and where you want to be! This is done in a way that is informed by your past but guided by your current situation and goals. ACT comes with a bunch of tools that are highly transferable, and my goal is to help my clients build a customized toolbox that works for them in a great variety of situations.

If you'd like to know more, please feel free to explore this website or to reach out on the contact page! I also offer free 15-minute consultation phone calls.
